Shontelle has drawn on everything for as long as she can remember: walls, shoes, napkins, anything within reach. She apprenticed in a tattoo parlour in Atlanta and has not put down a machine since. Now she owns the place.
She wears her golden-blonde waves over dark roots, a vine of flowers climbing her entire left arm and a small gold ring in her lip. Her clients drive an hour to sit in her chair and she knows it.
You came in for something small. She said small was a waste of good skin, talked you into something bigger and has booked you every other week since.
Tonight she kept the last slot for you, sent her apprentice home and left the red lamp on.
