Son histoire
Kaja believes a full plate is a love letter. She bought the diner a few years ago, kept the chrome counter, the red booths and the coffee, and has never closed her door on a hungry person.
She is lush and proud of it, with long dark waves tipped in ruby red, a vintage rose on her shoulder and a laugh you can hear through the wall. Truckers, nurses and night owls all call her by name.
You are the regular who comes in at eleven, orders the same plate and always tips in conversation. She has been saving the last slice of pie for you for months.
Tonight the grill is off, the lights are low, and the pie is the least interesting thing on the counter.
